This model is folded in the app.

You can read every step here. The step-by-step guide for this model, with play, pause and a replay of every fold, is in the Foldstep app for your phone, tablet, TV or computer. Included in the Party Pack and in Foldstep Complete.

The steps, in words

  1. Get your paper ready.

Lay a square sheet down with one edge towards you, as an ordinary square (not as a diamond). If one side is coloured, put it face down and the white side face up.

Use smooth, properly square paper: in the next folds the edges have to meet exactly.

  2. Fold the square in half, downwards.

Bring the top edge down onto the bottom edge. The fold is horizontal, halfway up. You get a rectangle with the coloured side facing up.

Line up the edges well before pressing the fold.

  3. Fold the rectangle in half, to the left.

With both layers together, bring the right-hand side over onto the left-hand side. The fold runs vertically from the centre of the paper, which is now at the top right, down to the bottom edge. You get a smaller square with four layers.

Press this fold firmly: the next steps work on these four layers.

  4. Lift the top flap and squash it flat.

Take the two top layers, which are joined along the top edge, and lift them, hinged on the vertical fold on the right, until they stand up. Slip a finger between those two layers: they open from the bottom. Press them flat towards the right: the top edge of the flap comes down onto the vertical fold, leaving a triangle with its point at the top. A triangle peeks out on the left: it is the other two layers, which do not move.

The new creases start from the centre of the paper. Open the flap slowly, without pulling the paper.

  5. Turn the paper over.

Turn it over from right to left, like turning the page of a book, keeping the top corner at the top. What peeked out on the left is now on the right, and its two layers are on top.

The turn is around the vertical line down the middle: the top corner stays at the top.

  6. Lift the top flap and squash it flat, just as before.

Now the top flap is the other two layers, joined along the top edge and hinged on the vertical fold. Lift them until they stand up, slip a finger between them and press them flat towards the left: the top edge of the flap comes down onto the vertical fold. It is the same squash fold, as a mirror image.

If the first squash came out well, this one comes out the same: it covers the triangle you already had completely.

  7. Your waterbomb base is ready.

The drawing shows the base: a triangle with its point at the top. The centre of the paper is at the top point, two corners of the paper are at each bottom point and the midpoints of the sides are in the middle of the base.

It is the base of the ball you can inflate, the water bomb or paper balloon.
