YOUR PAPER MOMENT
The kite base
Get your paper ready.
Lay the square down as a diamond, with one point towards you. If one side is coloured, keep it face down.
Turning the sheet is not a fold: it only changes how you look at it.
All the steps as text
Crease a diagonal and bring two edges to it. You learn to use a crease as a guide and reach a base that many models start from.
Get your paper ready.
Lay the square down as a diamond, with one point towards you. If one side is coloured, keep it face down.
Turning the sheet is not a fold: it only changes how you look at it.
Fold the diamond in half.
Bring the left point over to the right point. The fold runs from the top point to the bottom point.
Line the points up well, then press the fold.
Unfold the paper.
Open the sheet again. A vertical crease is left in the middle: it guides the next folds.
A firmly pressed crease makes the next steps easier.
Bring the lower-left edge to the crease.
Fold the lower-left edge until it lies exactly on the centre crease. The fold starts at the bottom point.
Hold the bottom point with one finger while you line up the edge.
Now the lower-right edge.
Fold the lower-right edge to the same crease. Both edges meet in the centre.
The edges touch on the crease without overlapping.
Your kite base.
You have a kite shape: a short point at the top and a long one at the bottom. Many models start like this.
If the edges don't quite meet, open the last fold and line it up again.
